The Irish traditional band INISH began playing music together, for the first time in 1985. The name itself comes from the Irish Gaelic word for small island (or islet) . These islands, mainly Gaelic speaking, are for the most part to be found on Irelands west-coastline and the inhabitants are renowned for their warm-hearted, earthy expression of Irish traditional music, song, dance and story. Band members Eddie Smyth, Marty Byrne and Robbie Doyle, are all Irish exiles, who left Ireland over 20 years ago with a great store of traditional music, song, stories and Irish humour to share with the world. Over the years the lads have played in different line-ups and have gained a wealth of top class professional experience and stage craft. Plugged or unplugged, whether it is in the Deutschlandhalle Berlin with Reinhard Mey or a small Folk Festival, the combined efforts of these seasoned musicians has to be heard. Between them they play a wide selection of instruments, including accordion, concertina, guitar, flutes, whistles, bodhran and percussion instruments along with 3 very powerful and beautiful voices. For larger concerts, tours etc. the band have a 4th guest musician, usually a fiddle-banjo player. ![]() Reinhard Mey mit INISH ca. 1985 in der Deutschlandhalle, Berlin.
